Do you have tender, red, swollen, or bleeding gums? If you have any of these symptoms, you may have gingivitis. But do you know what gingivitis actually is? It’s actually the earliest stage of gum disease, and if it isn’t addressed, it can develop into something much more serious. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to deal with gingivitis.
One of the most important things you can do to prevent gum disease is visiting our dentist regularly. During these appointments, we’ll be able to remove tartar—which is hardened plaque—that you won’t be able to remove yourself. Still, even though making these visits is extremely important, you should also clean your teeth at home. If you care for your teeth well, you can greatly decrease your odds of having gum disease.
Our team can also inspect your teeth for more signs of gum disease. You should visit our team once every six months. Sadly, many Americans have gum disease and never realize it. You may assume that gum disease isn’t serious, especially if you only experience mild tenderness or a little bleeding. However, if you have gum disease and don’t address the issue, you could ultimately have to deal with infections, bad breath, shifting teeth, tooth loss, and abscesses.
