You are probably aware that you should be brushing and flossing your teeth every day if you want to enjoy a healthy smile. However, did you know that picking the right kind of toothpaste can also benefit your teeth and your gums? In fact, some toothpastes can actually hurt your pearly whites. For example, have you heard that some people could actually be allergic to certain types of toothpaste?

As you may already have guessed, a common sign of toothpaste allergy comes in the form of a rash. This rash can be itchy and may also spread to your nose, your cheeks, and even to your chin. If you are suffering from a toothpaste allergy, you might have to deal with symptoms such as canker sores, hives, respiratory problems, and red and watery eyes.

Unfortunately, there are several problems that could cause your allergy. For example, some people could be allergic to ingredients like spearmint or peppermint oils that are typically used as flavorings in toothpaste. In reality, there are other ingredients that you may have a reaction to, including fluoride. While fluoride could help you prevent cavities and tooth decay, people with an allergy should probably choose another type of toothpaste. Fortunately, if you find you do have this allergy, you could try using less toothpaste on your pearly whites or rinsing your mouth out with water thoroughly after you brush.
